2008 Hugo Football Season Rap up

Coming off a disappointing 3-7 mark during the 2007 campaign left many to wonder if the Buffs could be a contender in 2008?  After a tough early season schedule left the Buffs 1-3 entering the second week of district play the general assumption was that it would be another long season.  However the 2008 Hugo Buffaloes were up to the task as they rolled up 5 straight district wins to clinch a playoff berth that seemed impossible after week four of the season. A balance offense attack, stingy defense and good work ethic elevated the Buffs to a top 10 ranking entering week 10 of the regular season.  The Buffs lost in the first round of the playoffs to eventual class 3-A state runner-up Claremore Sequoyah.  Graduating 16 seniors will leave some open spots for some future bright stars here at Hugo.  The Buffaloes return five proven players at linebacker led by the 2008 team leader in tackles Brian Holbrook. Lee Wolf, Ryan Debo, Tyler Loflin and David Carlile will join Holbrook to round out a solid line backing core for next season.  Colby Raper will return at defensive end to provide some stability in the interior line for the new players that should emerge on the defensive side of the ball.  Speedster Willie McAlister returns at running back (over 1,000 rushing and receiving in 2008) should provide lots of firepower for the offense.  Ryan Debo played every skill position on the offensive side of the ball and played it well in 2008 and should settle into something more consistent in 2009.  Other junior returning lettermen and special team players Jason Jorden, Alex Foster, Obed Perez, George Webb, Morgan Weber and Trey Rosenthal will return with experience to help fill open spots left by this years graduating class. The Buffs play in a tough district but with hard work they have a good chance to find themselves in another playoff run in 2009.  WE ARE HUGO!  GO BUFFS!

Hugo VS Sequayah Claremore

11-17-08 Hugo headed back to the playoffs. Tthe Buffs traveled to Claremore to take on the Eagles. A great crowd on hand and in the early going Hugo was showed great promise. Then an interception and an Eagles injury and it seemed to be the Hugo Offense that was sent to the hospital, and not the Eagles DB. The Buffaloes struggled from there on, ending the season with a 35-0 loss.
