More from Bill Payne :Last weekend I attended the Garth Brooks Radio Seminar in Nashville at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel on Friday night and all day Saturday with a visit with Garth at his home that evening. Garth announced a new greatest-hits CD boxed set at last Saturday morning's news conference. My friend and retired country superstar Garth is still retired and says he'll stay that way until his youngest daughter graduates from high school in 2015. He still packs a lot of hits though. Last Saturday, he announced he's putting out another boxed set--this one containing four news songs--and he spent time explaining to me that just because he's retired from touring doesn't mean he won't compete for spins at country radio stations like ours. Look for him to be on the Jay Leno Show soon! Promotions wizard Scott Borchetta is helping with this project and 200 radio executives and air personalities heard all about it last weekend. Garth is staying viable in the mainstream country market! The first new song from the boxed set release will be a lost-love song called "More Than A Memory" and will be played on KTFX and our other country stations beginning this Monday, Aug. 27th. Tears came to my eyes when I heard it. The new set, called "The Ultimate Hits" will hit stores Nov. 6th. Its a greatest hits pack, plus the new songs and DVD that has videos or each of the sets 34 tracks. Garth told me the price would be between $11 and $14. There's another big story about to break concerning Garth, too. Stay tuned! |

4-22-03 Payne gets pulled over for going to slow! |
| 4-18-03 Bradford Update-Right now
Bradford is still small enough that he has a higher respiratory rate,
so when he is awake and off of the vent he takes enough breaths to keep
his numbers where they should be for a little bit at a time. So until
he hits his next growth spurt and his respirations start to slow down
he is able to spend 2 hours twice a day off of his vent with a little
bit of supplemental oxygen. The oxygen tubing is a lot less restricting
than the vent tubing. We have found 50 ft. so he is able to go all over
the living room, dining room and kitchen while using the oxygen concentrator
in his room. He loves it!!! He is already walking a lot better and faster.
He already knows the difference....the minute you take him off, he heads
straight for the door to the living room. Then when you try to bring him
back in to go back to the vent he is NOT happy!!!
We will be working up to more awake time off of the vent as he tolerates it. So until he hits the point where we are not able to keep his numbers where we need them to be with just supplemental oxygen while awake, we don't need to do the diaphragm pacers yet. Once he is back to being on the vent 24 hours/day that will be our next step. They gave us a lot of good detailed information about the pros and cons of pacers and past experience with them. We did find out his will be different from the ones Christopher Reeves received. Also, they have a surgeon in Chicago now so we don't have to go somewhere new to get them. That was good news. She also said she wants him to be more established as a "toddler" before we do the surgery so that he can understand more about not pulling on the wires, etc. So we figure we are looking at early next spring or summer before he will get them. Again, that will all depend on him. Also, he got a new kind of trach that is more flexible. He has had a rough time getting used to it but it will be a much better one once he is used to it.We did some trials of not feeding him in the middle of the night and also not adding cornstarch to his bottles anymore (which we have done since Feb. 2002 hospitalization for low blood sugars.) They did hourly glucose checks and he didn't have any low blood sugars for two nights. So hopefully the hypoglycemia problem will be a thing of the past....time will tell. Now he can eat more of a "normal" diet and be able to sleep through the night without feedings. So lots of changes and lots of good news. We are so glad we were able to keep this appointment. They ran several tests on him, EKG, EEG, echocardiogram, etc. and they all came back normal so that was a relief. They were very pleased with his progress over the last year and couldn't believe how healthy he has been especially with Heather being school-aged. Speaking of Heather, she was glad to have us home and has really enjoyed spending time with her little brother without having to carry his 13 lb. vent on her back while pushing him around in his car....ha ha. Well, I have tried to include everything I could think
of....maybe even more than some of you want to know, but if I have left
anything out or you have any questions, feel free to ask....thanks again
to everyone..... |

It's official! The K95.5 WB Morning Circus is the 2002 OKLAHOMA NON-METRO PERSONALITIES OF THE YEAR click here to hear the announcement Boy, did Will and Barry's wives and rest of the K95.5 staff pull a fast one on them. According to Will and Barry the plan was to listen to the announcement via cell phone from Texas Motor Speedway Saturday night. The wives and staff had other ideas. "They went to great lengths to pull this off" Will said. "I called everyone, family, friends, and staff members to see if we had won" He got no answer. "Yeah, he was in the truck in the infield for at least 45 minutes trying to get someone on the phone." Barry said. Will and Barry finally gave up, until about 1:30a Sunday morning Will decided to call the hotel. "Surely someone is in the room" Will said. He was right his wife Brandi answered the phone and with out right lying to him she convinced him that Ryan Diamond Barry's brother had won the award. " All I said was Ryan and no." Brandi said with a laugh. Will notified Barry when they awoke Sunday morning and the pair didn't discuss it much after that. Both agreed that they were happy for Ryan and he deserved to win. "If we can't win it is great to keep it in the family" Will said. Sunday night both returned home and once again the wives did an excellent job keeping the secret. "I am sure it helped that both of us hadn't had any sleep since Wednesday" Barry said. MONDAY Morning 7:20AM- The Truth was Sprung! Right after Will and Barry conducted the Impossible Question contest a commercial was run. " The announcement came on and I listened, it was Chad and audio about the OAB award show, I had no idea what was going on but it sounded like we had won" Will said. Barry Chimed in "He had that look on his face, you know that what the heck is this look." They decided to play it again on the air after announcing the winner of the Impossible question. "It sounds like we won" Barry Said. "Yeah it does." Said Will. While on the air they discussed what had happened over the weekend. "We called everyone" Said Will. He called his wife's cell phone. "See, she didn't answer" said Will "Then we called Mellissa" Barry said. Right then Mellissa answered the phone in her I just got woken up voice. "Is the cat out of the bag?" Mellissa asked. "It is now!" Will and Barry said. "Congratulations, you guys." Mellissa said. On line two Chad who is the host of Crying, Loving, and Leavin on K95.5 called in on the hot line and told the duo what extent the wives and mastermind (Lisa D. manager of the Paris, TX office) went to keep the secret. Both Will and Barry were ecstatic that they had won. "Man, that was a good one" Will said. "What comes around, goes around" said Barry. They both agreed they had this coming for a long time. "What an April Fools Joke" Will said. Barry added with a big grin" Oh that was good, but paybacks are h..." -30- |
